for all you lazy people who cant afford a left click here’s the low down.
the story is basically about a child named lewis and in a nutshell this tells the story of one boys journey towards finding his real self and realizing that one does not find himself.. instead he makes himself.
lewis is an orphan and like many orphans dreams of the family he never had. in addition to that lewis is smart. very smart. and of course like all smart people he enjoys inventing things, which don’t seem to work out at times. (which is an understatement but then there’s a reason you call it an experiment right?). for lewis, amidst inventions that don’t work and constant rejections from parents who seem a little more than frightened of him life seems to be hopeless, and so he sets about inventing a machine to find the memories stored in the deepest part of the human mind so he can just maybe find a glimpse of his mother who he longs to see.
just when he seems to have everything working and his life is about change its direction. a mysterious man turns up and well.. changes lewis’s life’s direction. just that he changed it onto the wrong side. before lewis knows he’s involved in a plot as confusing as his life itself. a young boy called Wilbur Robinson comes to his aid and demands that his ruined invention has to be rebuilt and that this mysterious bowler hat guy has to be stopped. what follows is a high speed adventure through that breaks all the laws of the time and space as the two boys set out to do all of this. but seriously whats with wilbur and him trying to hide lewis from the rest of his family.. specially lewis’s hair. and WHAT is this “bowler hat guy’s” beef with lewis anyway. it all comes down to a final showdown between the family of robinsons and the arch nemesis where the truth is brought to light at last and the movie then comes to a close on a heart rendering note.
Meet the Robinsons is not strictly childs play and can be taken seriously by people of all ages provided they can get into the spirit of things. the movie takes its own good time to start up but like any roller coaster once you get to the top you sense that you ought to brace yourself for one heck of a ride.
animations in the movie are great with the usual animated exaggeration of facial features of people but its all been done very nicely and its very colorful and all that. but nothing exceptional. not that it would amtter anyway. the movie doesn’t really depend on the animations to make it as riveting as it already is.
what makes this movie strong is its plot line. yes its one of those movies with a message out to everyone (the message being.. “keep moving forward”) but in this case it blessedly skips the cliche lines and scenes and does it differently.. for real. and that honestly is what makes this movie.
the voice acting was not exceptional but it was absolutely fine and i honestly don’t want to be like those stupid usual critics who mumble about something being wrong just for the sake of it. i liked it as it was. and while we are on the subject of audibles.. the soundtrack was well…. mediocre. except for the final track.
if there was one thing that struck me hard it was the individuality of the characters in the film. And trust me on this one. the Robinsons are all a bunch of characters. and well the animations combined with a strong cast brings it out just fine.
well if you are wondering… Meet The Robinsons is definitely a movie for you to watch. it’s not too cutesy pie and its not cliche. its got a good blend between action and emotional scenes which bring out the reality of life on how a person will behave when the situation calls for it. And the ending just gets stuck in your head. and very much because of the song that plays right at the last point. a must buy. for sure.
